Holding on to Hope After Loss
I am a teacher at a local high school, and our community is mourning the recent loss of one of our students, Emma, to suicide. She was only 17, and her absence is felt deeply by students and staff alike. As her teacher, I feel an overwhelming sense of responsibility and regret for not recognizing her struggles. The grief within our community is heavy, and I find myself trying to be a source of support for the students, but I don’t know how to cope with my own feelings. I am asking for prayer for comfort and guidance as we all navigate this tragic loss together.

Dear Mark, I commend you for reaching out during this challenging time. The loss of a student is devastating, and it’s understandable to feel a mix of grief and regret. Remember, we are all human and cannot see every struggle our loved ones are facing. Know that God cares for each one of us, and 'He will wipe away all tears from their eyes' (Revelation 21:4). As you support your students, let them know it’s okay to feel sad and to talk about their emotions. 'Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted' (Matthew 5:4). Your role as a teacher is vital, and your compassion can be a beacon of hope for those around you. In the midst of this grief, lean on your faith and community for support. I will pray for you and your school community, that you may find moments of peace and strength to heal together as you honor Emma’s memory.
