Job Loss at 52 — Feeling Too Old to Start Over

🙏654 people praying

After 22 years at the same company, I was laid off last month due to downsizing. I am 52 years old, and every job I apply for seems to want someone younger. My savings are running out. My wife is supportive but I can see the stress in her eyes. I feel like a failure as a husband and father. I know God provides but I am struggling to believe it right now.

Pastor's Response

Pastor Samuel Torres

Men's Ministry Pastor, New Life Church

Michael, twenty-two years of faithful work is not nothing — that is a man of character and perseverance. Do not let one month of transition redefine twenty-two years of integrity.

Philippians 4:19 is a promise, not a suggestion: "My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus." He has not forgotten you.

Consider Moses at 80, Abraham at 75, and the disciples who were fishermen called to change the world. God's greatest chapters often begin after what looks like an ending.

Jeremiah 29:11 was written to people in exile — displaced, uncertain, afraid. "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." You are not outside the reach of those plans.

My prayer: Father, Michael has worked faithfully for decades. Open the right door — not just any door, but the one You have prepared for this season of his life. Restore his confidence. Provide for every need. In Jesus' name. Amen.
