Longing for a Heart of Service Over Self-Importance

Dear Pastor John, I am reaching out with a prayer request regarding my struggle with self-importance. At times, I feel that my contributions and ideas are paramount, leading me to disregard others' perspectives. This self-centered attitude troubles my relationships and my walk with God. I deeply desire to reflect the love and humility of Christ, who served others selflessly. I am asking for prayer that I may surrender my ego and embrace a spirit of service instead, valuing others and their contributions in my life. I hope to grow in this area and become more like Jesus.

Dear Anita, thank you for your openness and the desire you have to grow in Christ-like humility. In Mark 10:45, Jesus states, 'For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give His life a ransom for many.' This is a powerful reminder that true greatness in God’s kingdom is rooted in serving others. It's natural to desire recognition, but God calls us to a higher purpose. As we reflect on our own worth, let’s remember Philippians 2:3, where we are encouraged to 'let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.' This perspective fosters a genuine heart of service. As you seek to shift your focus, remember that Romans 12:3 tells us not to think more highly of ourselves than we ought to think, but to think soberly. May you find the strength to surrender your ego and embrace humility. Let’s pray: Lord, guide Anita as she seeks to serve others and reflect Your love. Amen.
