Longing for the Life I Once Knew
My name is Emily, and I’m struggling deeply after a chronic illness forced me to end my career. I used to find so much joy and purpose in my work, and now I feel lost and mournful for the life I once had. The friendships I’ve lost and the routines that have changed weigh heavily on my heart. I often find myself reminiscing about the joy of my job and the fulfillment it brought to my life. I feel as if I’m standing still while everyone else is moving forward. The feelings of isolation are almost unbearable at times, and I am asking for prayer that I may find peace and a new sense of purpose in this new stage of my life.

Dear Emily, I want to assure you that your feelings are valid and deeply understood. It is a natural part of life to mourn the things we have lost, especially when they are tied to our identity and purpose. In times like this, I encourage you to lean into the words of our Lord, who reminds us that He is the resurrection and the life. As John 11:25 says, 'I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live.' Your identity is not solely found in your career but in Christ, who has a plan for you even in this unexpected season. It’s also important to remember that God comforts us in our troubles, as noted in 2 Corinthians 1:4, 'Who comforteth us in all our tribulation.' I encourage you to seek new ways to connect with others and explore opportunities that could bring fulfillment. God has not forgotten you, and He is with you in your grief. Let us pray together: Heavenly Father, grant Emily the peace and clarity she needs as she navigates this new chapter in her life. Amen.
