Mending Relationships After Leaving a Cult
Hi, I'm Maria, and my family and I are trying to adjust after leaving a religious cult that controlled our lives for many years. The experience has left emotional scars, and now, as we attempt to rebuild our lives, I feel an overwhelming sense of guilt and shame for the years spent in that environment. My husband and I are struggling to reconnect, while our children have a hard time understanding the truths about faith that differ from what they were taught. I'm asking for prayers for healing in our relationships and for the strength to forgive ourselves. Pray for guidance as we navigate the complexities of re-establishing our family bonds and for wisdom to guide our children toward a healthy understanding of faith.

Associate Pastor, Covenant Presbyterian Church
Dear Maria, thank you for sharing your heart with us. The journey you and your family are on is both challenging and transformative. Please know that healing is possible through God’s grace. In Joel 2:25, we are given the promise, 'And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten.' God can redeem the time lost and bring new hope for your family. As you work to mend the relationships with your husband and children, remember that open communication, love, and patience will be essential. In Proverbs 31:10, it states, 'Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.' Your desire to nurture and heal your family reflects this virtuous spirit. Forgiveness is a crucial step; as we read in Ephesians 4:32, we are to forgive one another, just as Christ forgave us. I will be praying for you and your family, asking God to bring healing, restoration, and a renewed sense of unity.
