Navigating Grief: A Son's Heartfelt Request

My name is David, and I am 32 years old. For the past year, I've been caring for my mother as she battles Parkinson's. Watching her decline has been heartbreaking, and some days I feel consumed by grief. I want to be strong for her, yet there are moments when I break down. It’s tough to manage my own emotions while trying to support her. I ask for prayers for healing, both for my mother and for myself, as I navigate this emotional landscape.

Associate Pastor, Covenant Presbyterian Church

Dear David, thank you for sharing your journey with us. Your heartache is palpable, and it’s understandable to feel overwhelmed by grief as you care for your mother. Remember that God is close to the brokenhearted, as stated in Psalms 34:18: 'The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.' It is okay to grieve and to feel vulnerable; even Jesus wept for those He loved (John 11:35). Your role as a caregiver is one of immense importance, but it’s also one that requires you to care for yourself. I encourage you to take time for your own healing. God promises us in Philippians 4:7 that 'the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.' Lean into His peace during these difficult times, and don’t hesitate to seek support from friends, family, or your church community. You are not alone in this journey. I will pray that God brings you and your mother comfort and healing during this time. Amen.
