Navigating Parenting Challenges with a Veteran Dad

As a military family, we deal with unique challenges, especially since my husband came home. His PTSD symptoms sometimes manifest in ways that confuse our children. They don’t understand why their dad isn’t the same person he was before deployment. I pray for wisdom to help them cope and understand, and for my husband to find peace amidst his struggles. We need guidance on how to talk to our kids about what their dad is going through without overwhelming them. Please pray for clarity and strength for all of us as we learn to navigate these new dynamics. I’m hopeful for healing and growth as a family.

Pastor Michael Thompson

Senior Pastor, Bethel Church

Dear Lisa, thank you for your heartfelt prayer request. Navigating the complexities of parenting in a military household can be daunting, especially when dealing with PTSD. It’s essential to approach discussions with your children gently, allowing them space to ask questions and express their feelings. Psalms 127:3 reminds us that children are a heritage from the Lord, and it's our privilege to guide them through tough times. Lean into the Lord for wisdom, as He promises that if we lack wisdom, we can ask Him and He will give generously (James 1:5). Remember to take care of your own emotional health as well, as you cannot pour from an empty cup. Let's pray for God’s wisdom to fill your home, for healing for your husband, and for peace to reign over your family dynamics. God is faithful, and He will walk with you through this. Amen.
