Navigating the Heartbreak of My Mother's Alzheimer's
My heart is heavy as I watch my mother, once vibrant and full of life, slowly fade away due to Alzheimer's. I miss the woman who used to sing and dance with me, who shared her wisdom and laughter. Now, I feel like I'm losing her bit by bit, even though she is still physically here. It’s like mourning a living person, and the grief sometimes feels unbearable. I'm struggling to find joy in the moments we have left together, and I often feel guilty for my frustration. Please pray that I can find peace and patience in this journey, and that I can cherish the small moments we still have.

Dear Emily, I want you to know that your feelings are valid and understood. Watching a loved one struggle with Alzheimer's can feel like an extended grief, as you mourn both the person and the relationship you once had. Remember that Jesus said, 'Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted' (Matthew 5:4). God sees your tears and understands your heart's cry. It’s in these moments that we can lean on His promise found in Psalm 34:18, 'The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.' In your struggle, know that you are not alone; He walks with you through this valley (Isaiah 43:2). I encourage you to find small ways to connect with your mother in her current state, perhaps through music or simple conversations. Let’s pray together for peace in your heart and for the ability to create new memories, no matter how small they may seem. May God grant you strength and comfort during this difficult time.
