Navigating the Strain of Caring for a Disabled Child

I am a 40-year-old father raising my son who has autism. Some days, I feel entirely worn out and frustrated, not knowing how to help him express himself or fit in with other kids. I worry about the future—what will happen as he grows older? Too often, I feel alone, like I’m carrying this burden by myself. I am seeking prayer for renewed strength and clarity, and for guidance on how to better support my son through his struggles.

Dear Mark, thank you for sharing your heart. Parenting a child with special needs is indeed a heavy burden, but God is not unaware of your struggles. His Word teaches us that we should bear one another's burdens (Galatians 6:2). Remember that God has a plan for your son, for He created him wonderfully (Psalm 139:14). I want to encourage you to try and find joy in the small victories—those moments where your son shows progress, no matter how minor they may seem. Establishing a routine can also help in providing stability for him, and for you as well. I pray that you feel God’s strength wash over you in moments of exhaustion and doubt. Allow Him to guide you, and don’t hesitate to reach out for help when you need it. Let’s pray together: Lord, please bless Mark with renewed energy and wisdom as he navigates this journey with his son. Amen.
