Navigating Trust After Heartbreak

I am a 37-year-old single mother who is about to marry a wonderful man after a difficult divorce. My previous relationship was filled with mistrust and betrayal, which makes it hard for me to truly open up. Although my fiancé is kind and understanding, I am filled with anxiety over whether I can fully trust him. I often find myself pushing him away when I should be letting him in. I seek prayer for the healing of my heart and the ability to trust again. I want to build a future filled with love and faith, but I’m afraid my past will overshadow my happiness.

Dear Rachel, thank you for your heartfelt request. It’s understandable to carry the scars of past hurts, especially when entering a new relationship. Remember, though, that God is a healer of broken hearts, as stated in Psalms 147:3—He heals the broken in heart and binds up their wounds. In your pursuit of love, it’s vital to lean into God’s promises. Romans 12:10 encourages us to be devoted to one another in love, honoring each other above ourselves. This means fostering a spirit of trust and respect in your new marriage. As you navigate these feelings, consider talking openly with your fiancé about your fears. This will not only reinforce your bond but will also allow him to reassure you of his commitment. Let Psalm 128:3 be your guide, as it speaks of a fruitful family and a blessed home. Together, you can create a sanctuary of love and trust. I will pray for you to experience a fresh start and to embrace the joy that God has in store for you. Keep the faith, Rachel, and trust in God’s perfect timing. Amen.
