Overwhelmed Caregiver in Need of Rest

As a caregiver to my ill husband, I find myself utterly exhausted, physically and emotionally. The responsibilities of managing his medications, doctors’ appointments, and daily tasks have taken a toll on my well-being. I feel like I’m drowning under the weight of everything. I often battle feelings of guilt when I take time for myself, fearing that I’ll let him down. I pray for relief, for strength to keep going, and for moments of peace to rejuvenate my spirit. Please pray that I find the help I need and learn to embrace rest without guilt.

Dear Angela, your heart for your husband and your selflessness as his caregiver is truly commendable. Yet, remember that even Jesus took time to rest amidst His busy ministry. In Mark 6:31, He said, 'Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while.' It’s vital to take those moments for yourself, for you cannot pour from an empty cup. You can find comfort in Isaiah 26:3, which states, 'Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.' Lean on the Lord during this challenging season; He longs to give you strength. I encourage you to seek support from friends or church members who can help lighten your load. God’s grace is sufficient, and as Lamentations 3:22 reminds us, His compassions fail not, and His mercies are new every morning. I will pray for you to find that balance—rest in His presence, knowing that He will sustain both you and your husband in this journey.
