Praying for My Father's Heart Before Major Surgery

Question

I come to you with a burdened heart. My father, who has never held faith, is scheduled for significant surgery soon. He has always been indifferent to spiritual matters, which has caused a rift in our relationship. I find myself worried not just for his physical health, but for his spiritual condition. What if something goes wrong during the surgery? What if this is his last chance to know Jesus? I have poured my heart out in prayer for him, asking God to reveal Himself to my father in a way he cannot ignore. I pray for my father's eyes to be opened and for him to seek the Lord. Please pray for his salvation, that he might experience the love of Christ before it’s too late.

Dear Jonathan, thank you for sharing your heartfelt concern for your father. It is a weighty matter when we contemplate the spiritual well-being of those we love, especially in times of crisis. Your desire for your father's salvation is commendable, and I encourage you to continue praying without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17). Remember, God is never far from us; His Word assures us that 'the Lord is nigh unto all them that call upon Him' (Psalms 145:18). As you approach this moment with your father, be reminded of John 14:6, where Jesus tells us that He is 'the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.' Your father needs to hear that truth, and your prayers are powerful. I will pray for both your father’s surgery and for his heart to be receptive to the Gospel message.
