Questioning My Faith After Years of Prosperity Teaching
Growing up in a church that advocated the prosperity gospel, I was always taught that faith leads to wealth and success. For years, I pursued this belief, praying for financial blessings and material gains, convincing myself that my worth was tied to these things. However, as I’ve matured, I’ve started to see the emptiness in this ideology. Life has thrown challenges my way—loss of a job, financial struggles, and moments where faith felt distant. I now find myself questioning what true faith means and why I based my trust in God on earthly prosperity. I long to find a deeper, authentic relationship with Christ, one that isn’t contingent on my circumstances. I humbly ask for prayer that I may be guided to a more profound understanding of God’s love and purpose for my life, beyond material success.

Dear David, thank you for sharing your heart so openly. It takes courage to question beliefs that have shaped our understanding of faith. I want to encourage you that seeking truth is a part of spiritual growth. In Romans 10:17, we read, 'So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.' As you dig deeper into Scripture, I pray that your faith will be rooted in the wisdom of God rather than the fleeting promises of the world. Remember, the Lord calls us to trust Him fully; Proverbs 3:5 reminds us, 'Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.' This is a journey of deepening your faith, not abandoning it. Hold on to the promise of Philippians 1:6, which assures us that 'he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.' Let us pray for your journey toward a more authentic faith, one anchored in God’s truth. May you find comfort and direction in His Word.
