Reconnecting After Deployment Strain

Since my partner returned from deployment, things have been different. He seems distant, and our conversations feel forced. I want to reach out and reconnect, but I don’t know how to break through the walls that have built up during his time away. I’ve noticed that he struggles with anger and frustration, and it’s affecting our home life and my mental health. I often find myself feeling anxious about the future of our relationship. I pray for guidance on how to communicate my feelings and for healing to help us find our way back to each other. Please pray for our hearts to soften and for us to rediscover our love amidst the challenges.

Missions Pastor, First Baptist Church

Dear Jordan, thank you for sharing your heart with us. It’s understandable to feel this way after such a significant change in your lives. Deployment can bring about unseen struggles, and it’s essential to approach this with patience and understanding. Proverbs 31:10 says, 'Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies.' This reminds us of the value of patience and virtuous communication in a relationship. Take time to express your love in tangible ways, perhaps through shared activities or heartfelt conversations. Ruth 1:16 speaks to the commitment we make to one another; when you said, 'Where you go, I will go,' it was a covenant of love that can guide you now as you navigate these rough waters. Remember that true healing takes time and prayer. I will pray that God grants you both the wisdom to communicate openly and the grace to understand each other’s struggles. Together, may you find a renewed connection and deeper love. Amen.
