Seeking Assurance Amidst Fear of Hell

I’m 38 and my name is Jessica. Lately, I’ve been plagued by a fear of hell that keeps me from fully engaging in my faith. I find myself anxious, questioning if I’m truly saved or if I will be condemned. I feel guilty for every mistake I make, which exacerbates the fear. I want to embrace the grace God offers, but it feels like a constant battle against my own thoughts. I’m asking for prayer to break free from this fear, to find true assurance in my salvation, and to rest in the grace that God has promised to all who believe in Him.

Dear Jessica, thank you for your vulnerability in sharing your fears. God sees your heart and desires to comfort you. Remember that your salvation rests in Jesus, not in your ability to be perfect. John 3:16 reminds us, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." This promise is clear: your faith in Christ is what brings you eternal life. It’s important to replace the anxiety with Scripture, as Romans 10:17 states, "So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." God wants you to grow in your faith, and it often comes through reading and meditating on His Word. Don't let guilt overshadow the grace available to you. I encourage you to immerse yourself in the truths of His love. As you do this, may you find comfort in Psalm 34:18, which says, "The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit." I will be lifting you up in prayer for faith and assurance as you seek His peace.
