Seeking Clarity Amidst Racial Tensions
Hello, I'm Michael, a 22-year-old African American man. I feel overwhelmed by the racial tensions in our society, especially after witnessing the protests and violence that erupted recently. It's as if the air is thick with fear and anger, and I can't escape it. I have friends on both sides of these issues, and the conversations often turn heated. I feel pressured to take a stand and to voice my thoughts, but I fear backlash from those who may not agree with me. This pressure creates anxiety that impacts my peace of mind. I ask for prayer to help me navigate these complicated feelings and to find clarity in my beliefs, so I can respond with love and wisdom rather than fear.
Pastor's Response
Pastor Michael Thompson
Senior Pastor, Bethel Church
Dear Michael, your concerns are completely understandable in these challenging times. It’s commendable that you seek clarity and wisdom in how to approach these divisive issues. The Scriptures remind us to be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known unto God (Philippians 4:6). When you feel pressured to take an immediate stand, remember that God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1). Take time to seek His guidance through prayer and Scripture, allowing His truth to calm your heart. God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love, and of a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). I will pray for you, Michael, that God grants you the wisdom and peace you seek as you navigate these conversations.
