Seeking Emotional Connection with God in Worship
I’m a 45-year-old man who has been a lifelong believer, yet I find myself struggling to emotionally engage during worship services. I feel as though there’s a disconnect between my mind and my heart. I know the truth of God's love and grace, but I can't seem to internalize it when the music starts. This has left me feeling guilty, as if I'm not worshiping as I should. I desire to experience God more fully in these moments and to not just go through the motions. I am asking for prayer that God would help me bridge this gap and feel a deeper connection with Him in worship.

Dear Thomas, I appreciate you sharing your heart with me. It can be challenging to feel emotionally connected in worship, especially when you are aware of the great truths about God’s love. Remember, our emotional experiences do not define our faith or God’s presence in our lives. In Matthew 11:28, Jesus invites us, saying, 'Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.' This invitation is for you, encouraging you to bring your struggles before Him. I encourage you to engage in worship with intention. Perhaps write down your prayers or thoughts before services, allowing them to become a focal point during worship. Also, remember that God welcomes our honesty. Psalm 139:2 reminds us, 'Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising; thou understandest my thought afar off.' God understands your struggle and longs for you to connect with Him. Let’s pray that He reveals His presence to you in new and transformative ways during worship. May your heart be open to receiving His love.
