Seeking God in the Midst of My Child's Illness
My 12-year-old son has recently been diagnosed with schizophrenia, and my heart feels like it is breaking into a million pieces. The confusion, the fear, the strange behaviors; they all leave us shattered and in despair. I feel lost and unsure of what I can do to help him. My husband and I have been arguing because the stress is so overwhelming, and we don’t know how to support each other. I am praying for healing for my son and for guidance on how we can become a stronger family through this experience. I feel like I’m grasping for straws, and I need help.

Dear Elena, thank you for reaching out and sharing your profound struggles. The journey you are on is incredibly challenging, but I want to remind you that God is very much with you and your son. In Isaiah 41:10, God promises that He will strengthen and help us. Don’t hesitate to lean into that promise. Mental health challenges can feel isolating, but remember the importance of prayer and community. In James 5:15, we are encouraged to pray for one another, and through prayer, healing can occur. As you navigate this difficult time, trust that God is working even when it feels like you are surrounded by darkness. Seek out support from others who understand, and let’s pray for both your son’s healing and a sense of unity and peace in your family. May God’s love surround you and guide you through this tough season.
