Seeking Strength in the Face of Division
As a 22-year-old biracial woman, I’ve been struggling with feelings of frustration and disillusionment regarding my church’s silence on racial issues. I’ve grown up in this church and have always felt it was my spiritual home, but lately, I don’t feel that sense of belonging. I’ve reached a breaking point where I want to cry out for the injustices I see, yet I fear how my community might react. I need prayer to work through my emotions and find the strength to advocate for what is right. I long for my church to be a place of healing and understanding, where everyone feels valued and heard.
Pastor's Response
Pastor Linda Morrison
Senior Pastor, Grace Community Church
Dear Tara, your courage in expressing your feelings speaks volumes about your heart for justice and belonging. It is painful to feel disconnected from a community that should embrace you as family. I want to remind you that God values your voice and your experiences. 'The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit' (Psalms 34:18). Your longing for healing and understanding is a reflection of His desire for His people to come together in love. Consider reaching out to like-minded members of your church who share your passion for these issues. 'Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!' (Psalms 133:1). I will pray that God gives you the strength and courage to speak up and the wisdom to foster healing in your community. May His peace fill your heart as you continue on this journey.
