Shattered Dreams of a Homecoming
I’m James, an immigrant from Haiti, and I left my country in search of a better life. But the ongoing violence there makes it unsafe for me to return, and every day I am haunted by the memories of my family and friends who remain. I had dreams of bringing them here once I found stability, but those dreams feel shattered now. The uncertainty weighs heavily on me, and I often feel guilty for being safe while my loved ones are in danger. I pray for their safety and for the strength to continue living my life here. I need guidance to navigate my emotions and find purpose despite this overwhelming grief.

Dear James, thank you for your courageous message. It’s truly heart-wrenching to hear about the struggles you face with the situation in Haiti and the worry for your loved ones. Your feelings of guilt and anxiety are completely understandable. In times like these, remember the truth of Psalm 30:5, which tells us, 'for his anger endureth but a moment; in his favor is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.' God sees your tears, and He is acutely aware of your situation. I encourage you to bring your concerns to Him in prayer, trusting that He has a plan for you and your family. In Jeremiah 29:11, God promises, 'For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.' Let this promise guide you as you seek purpose in your new life. I will pray for your family’s safety and for wisdom as you navigate this uncertain time. Remember, you are not alone; the Lord is with you every step of the way. Amen.
