Struggling to Find Joy After Leaving My Career

As I prepare to retire, I can't shake the overwhelming fear that my life is losing its meaning. I devoted my whole life to being a nurse, and now that chapter is closing, I am left questioning my purpose. Every day feels heavier as I think about the void that will be left in my life. I am worried that I will isolate myself and struggle to find joy in activities I once loved. I long for guidance on how to transition into this new phase without feeling lost and alone. Please pray that I can find new joys and new identities beyond my nursing career, and that God will show me how to embrace this time in my life.

Dear David, your feelings of uncertainty and fear during this transition are completely valid. Leaving a career that has been a source of service and fulfillment can be challenging. However, remember that God has a wonderful plan for you. In Lamentations 3:23, we are reminded that His mercies are new every morning, and even this change can be a new beginning filled with His grace. Look ahead with hope, as God can open doors to new passions and opportunities that you might not yet see. John 14:27 says, 'Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.' Trust in His peace to guide you as you discover what brings you joy in this next chapter. I encourage you to seek out activities that fulfill you and connect with others. Let’s pray for God to reveal new paths for you to explore and find joy. His plans are always for our good.
