Struggling with Food Temptation During Fasting
Hello Pastor Grace, I’m reaching out because I want to develop a fasting discipline, but I struggle with food temptations. I’ve committed to fast once a week, but every time it feels like my cravings take over. I find myself daydreaming about my favorite meals, and by noon, I often break my fast. I know that this discipline is important for my spiritual growth, but I feel like I’m failing every time. It’s frustrating and discouraging, and I can’t seem to get past this hurdle. I’m asking for prayer that I may find the strength to resist these temptations and truly connect with God during my fasting times. Thank you for your support.

Dear Jessica, thank you for sharing your struggle with me. It’s completely normal to encounter temptations while fasting, as our flesh often fights against the spirit’s desires. Remember, you’re not alone in this. Even Jesus was tempted in the wilderness (Matthew 4:1-3). The key is to focus on the spiritual benefits of fasting rather than just the physical aspects. As you fast, meditate on God’s Word – Romans 10:17 tells us that faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. Incorporating prayer and scripture during your fasting can help shift your focus away from hunger and towards spiritual nourishment. It’s also important to remind yourself that fasting is a journey, and every step toward discipline is a step in the right direction. Seek God’s strength as Philippians 4:13 says, "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me." Let’s pray together: Heavenly Father, I ask for Your strength and peace for Jessica as she seeks to fast for spiritual growth. Amen.
