Wrestling with Forgiveness After a Workplace Betrayal

I'm a 38-year-old man who has always worked hard in my career, but a colleague I trusted betrayed me by taking credit for my project. I dedicated countless hours to this work, believing in teamwork and collaboration. After finding out, I felt devastated and angry. It feels like such a deep betrayal, and I find it hard to look him in the eye at work. I keep thinking about how he has hurt me and how unfair it is. I know I should forgive him, but I can’t seem to let it go. I’m asking for prayer to help me find the grace to forgive this colleague and to not let this situation consume my thoughts anymore.

Dear David, I’m so sorry to hear about this hurtful experience. It’s truly painful when someone we trust betrays us, especially in a professional environment where we expect mutual respect and honesty. I want to encourage you that your feelings are valid, and it’s natural to feel anger in such situations. However, clinging to that anger can hinder your own peace and growth. In Romans 12:19, Paul reminds us that vengeance belongs to the Lord. We are called to release our bitterness and allow God to handle the justice. Forgiveness is often a process, not a one-time event. As you navigate this, cling to Proverbs 3:5 and trust in the Lord for understanding. Allow God to lead your heart towards forgiveness, which He can help you accomplish even when it seems impossible. I encourage you to pray for your colleague daily; this can be a powerful step in softening your heart. In Philippians 4:7, we are promised that the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your heart and mind. May you experience this peace as you surrender your hurt to Him. You are in my prayers, David.
