Wrestling with the Fear of Hell's Grip
I find myself waking up in the middle of the night, my heart racing, consumed by fear. Fear of hell, fear of not being good enough to earn God's grace. It's like a heavy blanket suffocating me, making it impossible to rest or find peace. I was raised in a church where the emphasis was always on sin and punishment. Each mistake feels like a nail in my coffin, and I can't shake the feeling that I am destined for damnation. I've tried praying, but the dread always creeps back in. I yearn to grasp what it truly means to rest in God’s grace, yet this crippling fear keeps me from finding solace. I ask for prayer to help me overcome this paralyzing fear and to truly understand the depth of God's love and grace.

Dear Sarah, I want you to know that you are not alone in your struggle. Many believers grapple with feelings of fear and inadequacy, but I encourage you to remember the truth of God's Word. In Romans 8:39, it says, 'Neither height, nor depth, nor any other creature shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.' This assures us that nothing can sever our connection to God's love, not even our fears. You mentioned feeling suffocated by a fear of hell; I want to remind you that perfect love casts out fear (1 John 4:18). God’s grace is not something we can earn; it is a free gift, as stated in Ephesians 2:8-9, 'For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God.' Allow yourself to meditate on these truths. I pray that you will find rest and peace as you draw closer to God, embracing His grace and love. Let us pray together that the Holy Spirit will fill your heart with assurance and comfort.
