Yearning for Connection Amidst Night Shifts
Hi, my name is Jamal, and I’ve been working night shifts as a security officer for a couple of years now. The hours are long, and while I’m grateful for the paycheck, I often feel lonely and disconnected from my family and friends. My wife and I used to have dinner together every evening, but now it’s just a fleeting moment. I feel exhausted and burdened, and sometimes I wonder if it’s worth it. I’m asking for prayers that God would help me find moments of connection with my loved ones, even if it’s just through a phone call or text, and that He would ease my exhaustion and bring joy back into my life. I need wisdom to manage my time and prioritize what truly matters.

Dear Jamal, thank you for sharing your heart with us. The loneliness that can accompany night shifts is a real and heavy burden, but I want to remind you that God sees your hard work and the sacrifices you are making. As you seek connection with your family, remember the words of Joshua 1:8, 'This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.' Spend time with God in His Word, and allow Him to fill your heart with His peace and wisdom. It’s also important to look for small ways to connect. A quick message or a warm note can go a long way. Ecclesiastes 3:1 reminds us, 'To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.' Embrace the season you are in, and trust that God will provide opportunities for connection. I will be praying for you, asking for God’s strength to uplift you and for those moments of joy and connection to come flooding back into your life.
