Guidance in Discipline for Foster Care Children
As a foster parent, I sometimes struggle with how to discipline my foster child, who has faced many traumas. I want to be firm yet loving, but I often question whether I'm doing it right. I desire wisdom to know how best to guide them while also being sensitive to their past experiences. Please pray for clarity and direction in how I can approach discipline in a way that promotes healing instead of causing additional harm. I want to build a relationship based on trust, but I also need to maintain boundaries that help them feel safe. I truly appreciate any prayers for this aspect of our journey.

Dear Kevin, thank you for your sincere prayer request. It’s evident that you have a deep concern for the well-being of your foster child. Discipline is a delicate balance, especially for children who have endured trauma. As Proverbs 22:6 advises, 'Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.' Your desire to guide them with love is a step in the right direction. Remember that God is with you in this responsibility. Ephesians 6:4 reminds us, 'And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.' It’s important to discipline with understanding and compassion. Trust that God will give you the wisdom you need as you navigate this important role. Let’s pray for clarity in your discipline approach and for your child to feel both safe and loved.
