Deciding on a Major Life Change in My 40s

I’m a 42-year-old man at a crossroads in life. After years of working in corporate America, I’ve felt God calling me to pursue seminary. The thought is thrilling yet daunting; I feel like I’m too old to start over. My family is supportive, but I’m riddled with questions about finances and whether I’m making the right choice. I’ve noticed that it seems easier for younger individuals to make such big decisions. I ask for prayer as I seek wisdom and clarity about this path that feels so uncertain and life-altering.

Campus Ministry Director

Dear Mark, thank you for your candidness. It is never too late to follow God’s call, and your willingness to explore this opportunity is commendable. Our God is a God of new beginnings! Remember, He promises us, "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end" (Jeremiah 29:11). Your experience in the corporate world may actually enrich your ministry; God often uses our previous journeys for His divine purpose. Trust in Him as you take this leap of faith—"For we walk by faith, not by sight" (2 Corinthians 5:7). As you navigate these decisions, may you find confidence in His leading and assurance in His care. Trust the process, and know that every step you take is part of His plan. I pray for wisdom in your discernment and peace in your heart as you consider this significant change. Amen.
