A Woman's Battle Against Racism-Induced Anxiety

Dear pastor, I am a 35-year-old African American woman who has faced constant discrimination in my workplace and community. Each encounter leaves me feeling anxious and fearful, like I’m never truly safe. I often find myself lying awake at night, replaying instances of racial trauma. It feels overwhelming, and I sometimes doubt my worth and place in this world. I want to rise above these feelings and trust in God's plan for me, yet the anxiety is debilitating. I’m asking for prayer to find peace in my heart and strength to confront these fears with faith.

Dear Tasha, I want you to know that your feelings are valid and that you are not alone in this journey. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit (Psalms 34:18). Your experiences may have caused deep wounds, but I encourage you to cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you (1 Peter 5:7). Remember, we are called to not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God (Philippians 4:6). I urge you to lean on your faith and community. Surround yourself with those who uplift you and remind you of your worth. In moments of fear, remember that God is your refuge and fortress, in whom you can trust (Psalm 91:1). I will pray for your healing and strength as you continue to navigate these challenges, trusting in God's love and provision.
